No "third party" activities synced to other platforms (again)

Since tuesday garmin has disabled the synchronization of "third party" activities to third party platforms (So e.g. Zwift -> Garmin -> e.g. Runalyze).

This synchronization of third-party providers has also been possible "only" since the end of April 2020, but that after a year to declare a "bug" I find an unfortunate move by Garmin.

From a technical point of view, it would at least be understandable to take some load off of Garmin's systems, but that should really only be a trope on a hot stone.

What is your opinion about it?

My opinion is that your post is a word-for-word copy from reddit. Third party activities have worked before and after April 2020 with no issues. I'm using Garmin Connect, strava, and mapmyrun. No problems.

Why are you asking? Are you referring specifically to runalyze?

  • If you mean...

It's not about syncing to Garmin connect, it's about sending those activities to third party platforms

  • Am I'm not allowed to post in two different communities the same question?

  • Absolutely you can. However, it's a common method that spammers use, especially those that aren't fluent in English, so I suggest changing the words at least a little.

As to your OP, are you having a problem with runalyze or some other app? What specifically isn't working for you?

  • Garmin started last year in end of April syncing third party activities (uploaded from Zwift to Garmin) also to third party platforms like ours (Runalyze).
On tuesday they announced the stopped pushing those third party fit file activities to third party platforms.  They said "it was a bug".
A  Garmin supporter I had contact with in April last year was amazed, but not suprised that Garmin finally started pushing those activities to third party platforms.

  • Garmin should turn this API on again. Otherwise we will look elsewhere for a platform that allows open API's to sync data (our own data) to 3rd party platforms.

    Shame on Garmin.

  • Not to get it wrong. Your Garmin activities will still be synced, it's about activitis e.g. from zwift, which are pushed to Garmin. Garmin does not allow third parties to get the fit file since tuesday.

  • Garmin does not allow third parties to get the fit file since tuesday.

Why don't you send it fom Zwift directly to Runalyze? You cannot really blame Garmin for refusing to serve as a free gateway for 3rd party apps. Either do as I wrote and connect the two 3rd party apps directly, or record your activities with the Garmin device you own.

  • I just blame them because they "suddenly" shut it off. They could have ask the developer community what they should do about it.

yes, the problem is that Zwift offers no API and is absolutely not interested in third parties.

  • They could have ask the developer community what they should do about it.

I'd tell they knew you'd prefer that they do a free interface for other 3rd parties, but I guess their own interests were prioritary. Possibly too many users abused the system as a free gateway without even having any Garmin device at all.
