vEveresting fit file on Mac corrupted. Can anyone help?

Hi All,

A friend and I made the silly decision to take on the vEveresting challenge yesterday. Unfortunately, after I finished the ride, the fit file (https://www.dropbox.com/s/1ipdnksxvm89uga/2021-03-21-07-58-29.fit?dl=0) didn't save properly and is now corrupted. I've tried to fix it using Fit File Tools online but couldn't recover everything and, as I'm on a Mac, the Fit File Repair Tool isn't an option.

Any pointers on how I can fix it myself? Or could anyone well-versed in these things fix it for me? I realise it may not be possible to retrieve everything but, for reference, the ride totals should be 10hr 24 mins, 8922 m and 222 km (based on Zwift Companion app - but unfortunately corruption means full data not uploaded so can't get fit file off it).

It would mean a huge amount if I could get this repaired, it was a huge effort and it would be nice to have Strava proof of having completed it!

Best,

F

Run the fit file through FIT File Tools. Use the section remover without any changes.

    • Launch Section Remover
    • Drop your fit file onto Step 1
    • Step 2 - Choose your preferred unit of distance
    • Step 3 - Click Go!
    • Step 4 - Click Go!
    • Click the link "Click here to download your file!"
    • Import the repaired fit file into Garmin Connect using the [import data page]

I did this and it repaired your file. Let us know if you have any questions or problems.

Thanks seilogramp. I have done this but when I do, the last hour of the activity, and last ~1000 m of ascent is missing. It could be that this data was never exported correctly and so there's nothing that can be done, but is there anyway I can look for this missing data?

Sorry, didn't word my original post very well. When I said 'couldn't recover everything', what I meant was that I was able to recover some (first 9 hrs 30 mins using FIT File Tools) but not all of the file (i.e. not the last hour where I actually passed the Everest mark).

  • I see now. Need more caffeine. Sleeping. Let me try the fit file repair tool

  • Running this through Fit File Repair tool.

"Attention, there are Gaps in your recording! Please note the entries on the record tab 'Gaps'!" Not necessarily the cause of the corruption, but worth noting.

Any other issues were auto-repaired by the application resulting in 222 km, 10:20:45.
