Forum request: Wiki/sticky topic for frequently asked questions

It seems like some of the same topics come up over and over again, such as:

- How do I export all my activities?

- Why does my 22k run show as a half marathon PR??

- Can we please have granular units in Garmin Connect???

and

- How do I get rid of Golf?????? >_<

It would be great if we could have a wiki/sticky topic for some of the popular topics. Or maybe improve the forum search feature. If I search for "export", the top hits are 1 to 7 years old.

It would also be a nice to have a sticky topic for handy user-contributed scripts/styles for changing the appearance and functionality of GC, or for finding/exporting data.

As a corollary, it might be nice to prevent people from replying to non-stickied topics that are too old. (I realize these are kind of contradictory -- in spirit -- asks.) But I think sometimes old topics get resurrected because of the less than optimal search, when newer topics containing the information that user wants are already available.

  • Well, there are already sticky threads, with some of the most frequent topics, and I am afraid if the admins start adding all those that are regularly reoccuring, the first few pages of the forum will be filled just with sticky threads, making it even more difficult to use, than it is now.

A Wiki is a good idea, and am all for it too, though the support knowledge base at support.garmin.com already has plenty of documents addressing most of the topics here, and still there are not many users trying to find the information there.

The search function of the forum is indeed unusable. Fortunately, the site-specific Google search ("site:forums.garmin.com my search term" and also "site:support.garmin.com my search termfor Garmin's own support documents) works perfectly for this purpose, so it would be enough replacing the unusable forum search with that.

Unfortunately, seeing how miserably the last forum update failed, removing useful functionality (i.e. the reverse sorting of posts in a thread), and introducing a bunch of new bugs that were never fixed (disappearing links, text ovewriting the related links column, incorrectly working read-threads tagging, etc., etc), I am afraid we cannot expect much.

  • I agree, these would be nice but at the very least there should be a sticky post at the top explaining that the forums are primarily seen by Garmin users and only sometimes do official Garmin moderators review the posts so if somebody wants to get in touch with Garmin directly they should contact Garmin Support.  This seems to be the answer to a large number of questions.

And yes trux, I really miss the ability to reverse sort posts to see what is new versus reviewing posts several pages long that can be years old.
