How can I change sync frequency to connect.garmin.com?

Currently, I can only upload data to connect.garmin.com if I manually press the sync button on my Venu. How can I do this automatically, for example, after I wake up or finish an activity, or simply twice a day? I am connected to my phone via Bluetooth, however, my phone is offline and every upload is done via Venu directly via Wi-Fi.

  • Does your Venu have the following option?

    Settings > Wi-Fi > Auto Upload

If you have that option and you turn it on, your watch should attempt to upload via wi-fi shortly after the completion of an activity.

(It works on my 935. There's a window of a few minutes between the end of the activity, and the time when the watch will give up trying to auto-upload, as I end my running activities when I'm still outside, and I don't connect to Wi-Fi until a few minutes later.)

Other than that, I don't think any Garmin watches do regular syncs via Wi-Fi, because it would impact battery life.

  • Auto Upload is turned on. I completed only a few activities so far, but I haven't notice that it would sync automatically. However, that still concerns only activities and not sleep tracking for example. Indeed it would affect battery life, but syncing once or twice a day would consume a negligibly small amount of battery. The small price which I am willing to pay for convenient synchronization.

  • I suggest submitting an idea to Garmin here:

    https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/

Hopefully if enough people have the same request, Garmin will add this feature.

I wouldn't mind having regularly Wi-Fi syncing during the day myself. I keep bluetooth off whenever possible.

When you get back in within range of your Wi-Fi network shortly after an activity, open the controls menu and scroll to the sync button. It should indicate "Transfer in Progress".

  • No idea how it works with Venu (you better post to the [Venu forum] for that specific model), but on my Instinct, every Activity syncs over the BT (hence no WiFi necessary) to the phone app as soon as I save it on the watch. No setting necessary. And if the phone is not in the range, it then syncs as soon as I come closer to the phone (or within a few minutes).

And as far as I could see other Garmin devices, they worked in the same way. Only the Vivoki pedometer of my wife needs to be triple-tapped to wake up and sync.

  • I posted in the Venu forum, but it had to be moved since it does not really concern a specific model I guess.

Thanks for your answer, but it is offtopic. I asked about syncing directly via wi-fi, so no phone between. When I am working from home, I have no need to connect the phone to wi-fi (I then receive all notifications twice - on PC and on phone, thus the phone is not needed and it is annoying), so that is why I was asking about the frequency of syncing directly from the watch to connect.garmin.com. I would love to see my activities or sleep tracking on the web without pressing the sync button on my watch after waking up or finishing acitivity.

Well, if you really mean direct syncing by WiFi, then it is model specific, since the vaste majority of Garmin watches have no WiFi, just the BT. Sorry, I cannot help with WiFi, since I have none on my watch. However, the user manual of your device tells the following, on the page [Wi‑Fi Connected Features]:

"Automatically sends your activity to your Garmin Connect account as soon as you finish recording the activity."

So if it does not work in that way, then you either do not have the WiFi correctly set up, or the device does not work as it should. In that case, I'd suggest contacting the Customer Support.
