Sync with Fitness Apps - why do you ask for money?

Me and thousands of others would like to sync our fitness datas with garmin connect. Kinomap for example tries to find an agreement with garmin in this respect since three years. Now kinomap decided not to go with garmin because garmin is asking for 20.000 Dollar fee....

What I would like to understand is: WHY? We have already Garmin equipment purchsed... why do you want to make extra money? Sync with garmin should be possible by mandatory. Because we paid for already. With this money money money behaviours you are limiting our experiences also with garmin products.

I guess because the development, maintenance, and support of the Garmin Connect platform and of the API continuously cost a lot of money, and there is no reason why 3rd party using them should not participate on the cost.

Yes, I paid for my watch too, but as far as I remember there was nowhere written that Garmin's system has to offer the access to their platform to any 3rd party, free of charge.
