Newbie question. Activities not uploading

Hi

First post and not very technical person here!!

Had my Forerunner 35 for about 4 years. More and more recently, my runs have not been uploading to Garmin connect. I usually resort to taking a photo of the activity on my watch and sticking that on Strava but I'm getting a bit better at running and i want the world to know lol.

Yesterday it didn't upload again and so i went to my friend who managed to sort it and upload it. It was corrupt.

I then reset the watch and wiped all data.

Today i ran again (same route) and it once again hasn't uploaded.

I don't have access to a PC and my work laptop blocks the watch when i plug it in.

I feel stuck.....

I do stop my watch a lot (covid lung recovery) and until yesterday i had a lot of activities on my watch so wasnt sure if that was the issue.

Could i just possibly need a new watch?

Is there anyway i can sort them without a pc?

Thanks

Helen x

What type of phone do you have? If you can zip the corrupt file and attach it here - Insert > Image/video/file > upload. We can look at the file and try to repair it.

The Forerunner 35 is notorious for having corrupt file issues. If there is a way for you to move to almost any other of the current Garmin watches, you should be good.

Some tips to help minimize the occurrence of corrupt fit files, which could be challenging without a PC.

    • Keep the number of files in the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder on the device’s file system to a minimum using these directions: Removing Recorded Activities on a Garmin Fitness Device If you delete the files in your activity folder with a Mac computer, then empty the trash folder before you unplug your device from the computer.
    • Try to avoid excessive button presses during your activity.
    • Regularly check for firmware updates.
    • If issues with corrupt files persist, contact Garmin Support.
  • Hi Seilogramp thank you for the quick reply. Ive a samsung phone but still not sure how i would access the data off the watch.

Ive reported it to garmin support via twitter but not holding my breath. I might try see if i can get a nice second hand watch. I just loved how this just did what i needed it to without everything else lol x

Depending on the model and android version of the phone, you should have a way to connect it to your Garmin. Older android phones will have a micro-USB port, newer ones will have a USB-C port. My phone has USB-C and came with a USB-C to USB-A adapter, so I can plug the Garmin cable into my phone and see the files on my watch.

Once connected, go to the "My Files" icon on your phone, then USB Storage 1 >> GARMIN >> ACTIVITY. You will then see all the .FIT files located on your watch, including the corrupt one, which you should be able to determine by the date of the file. Long press that file then Copy. Arrow back to the phone internal storage >> documents >> "copy here"

Long press the file, then compress file, which will turn it into a zip file. Then you should be able to attach it to your post - Insert >> Image/video/file >> Upload. Once you've done that you should also remove the other .FIT files located on the watch under the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder.

If all this seems a bit daunting, you might want to get your friend to assist again.Grinning

Ive reported it to garmin support via twitter but not holding my breath.

The recommended way to get support directly from Garmin is to use the Garmin Support Center. Chat or call for fastest service.

  • ahh i see what you mean. I dont think i have one but might try buy one.

Is the Forerunner 45 ok for corruption? x

  • Is the Forerunner 45 ok for corruption? x

Yes, I see very few people on the forum complaining about corrupt files on a Forerunner 45.

  • lovely thank you. I think i am going to treat myself.

Thank you for all your help x

  • If you have a USB-C port, this is what you would need - www.amazon.com/.../B07XYTHCXV
