Elevation Correction doesn't not fix distance

Is it a way to fix the distance with an activity where you apply elevation correction?

It happens quite often my barometer stops working during a run. It manifests itself in the graph by lowering the temperature to 0 and going up again.

The problem here, elevation goes up to 9000m (my best is over 27000m!) and suddenly think I actually run up there.

My sensor is clean and the software of my fenix 3hr is up-to-date.

Currently, the only way is to go to Strava to get the actual distance.

  • Disable the option 3D Distance in the settings of the Run Activity

  • Hi trux,

Thank for the reminder! but unfortunably 3D speed and 3D distance are both switch off in my app settings.

I understand we are dealing with consumer electronic and mine is kinda 2016, but by nowdays standard  it makes me smile their backend servers can't detect bogus data and adjust like strava does.

If 3D distance is off, then the elevation has no impact on the distance, and hence there is no reason why Elevation Correction should be changing the distance.

I agree it doesn't make sense to me either but It looks like it is being recorded by the fenix 3 anyway.

Why do you think so? If it added the elevation to the distance, it would have to add 9km, at the peak. And since the distance was already +6km before the "climb", at the peak there would have to be the distance of +15km, in that case. Looks to me the problem comes from elsewhere than the elevation. Perhaps rather a GPS error

  • I had the same assessment first, bu no-glass didn’t help either. I noticed each and every time the temperature was following an inverse curve compared to elevation. I cast my doubts on the barometer system which handles temperature as well. I assume there is something wrong with the watch, I don’t really mind at the end but the back end should be able to flatten this and adjust accordingly the session metrics automatically.

Flattening is possible with the Elevation Correction, as you noted yourself. However the Elevation Corretion has no impact on the distance, so it won't help to fix it. You'd need another function for fixing the distance errors, similarly as it is in Strava (also separately for the elevation and for the distance), but that's not available in Garmin Connect, and we here on the user forum cannot help to integrate it. You need to contact the Customer Support and ask them directly, since they are not likely to see your request here.
