Rogue connection request

My privacy settings in Connect are set to 'only me' but I received a connection request from a random person.

How does this happen?

Where do they get my email address from?

They do not have your email address. They send the request through Garmin Connect. Probably looking up random people by user name through the Connections search field, or seeing you in the Step Challenge (if you participate to one)
