Two watches, same account but different people

I have a vivoactive and a venu sq, under the same account. I gave the vivoactive to my dad. I coudnt install the garmin connect app into già phone, because the watch is too old and now the data is summed up...

can I install the vivoactive in a new account?

or, can I separate the steps and sleep of the two watches?

Yes, you can. Before passing the device to another person, do not forget doing the master reset.

No, not in the same account.

  • I don't know of a way to sync 2 devices to 2 different accounts in mobile Connect on one phone. However, you can link 2 devices to 2 accounts in Garmin Express..

Well, I did not test it (not having two devices), but I think if you sync the first device in the first GC account, then sign out, and sign into the other account syncing the other device there, it should work without problems.

On the other hand it is far from being a comfortable or a usable way to sync the devices. I'd rather suggest getting any compatible second-hand smartphone for couple of bucks, even if it was just for the purpose of the syncing. Syncing over the cable to Garmin Express as suggests, is certainly a good solution too, if you do not mind the necessity of using the computer for it.

  • Exactly. It's very easy to forget to log out of one account particularly when two people are involved. Somehow, somewhere, it's bound to go wrong at one point.

Well, if each device is registered only in its respective account, there is not much that can go wrong. Just, if you attempt to sync the device while being in the wrong account, it won't sync until you sign out, and sign into the right account. Not a big deal, but in the same time also not really comfortable solution.

But as I wrote, I cannot test it, so cannot guarantee it works exactly as I suppose it should. Still, getting another phone, or a tablet for the syncing, or syncing with Garmin Express is definitely the better way.

  • I did for awhile. When I upgraded from a VF to a VS, I created a "Test" account for myself so that I could wear both devices and compare the stats generated from each. The problem would arise when I would forget to log out of the test account. Then, I would sync the next day and have the wrong info going to the wrong account.
