Using a Garmin watch and cycle computer simultaneously

I have a Gamin Edge 830 for cycling and a Fitbit watch. I'm considering moving to a Garmin Fenix 6x. Can I cycle wearing the watch and using the Edge without the data being duplicated? I wear a watch as normal and wouldn't want to have to leave it at home. Similarly, it would be nice to be able to cycle occasionally without the Edge for quick commutes etc.

  • I do that with a FR910XT on my handlebar and my Vivoactive 3 on my wrist. What I do is start my cycling activity on the FR910XT while still wearing my VA3. I don't start an activity on the VA3. The stats integrate perfectly with each other in Garmin Connect.

Since the Edge 830 has more features than my FR910XT and the Fenix has more features than my VA3, I can't really comment about whether some of the more advanced measurements would conflict. However, given the intended usage of an Edge, I would think that shouldn't happen.

  • If you start one activity on each device and save them the data will be duplicated. Garmin Connect will not match them together. As long as you don't do that there will be no problems at all.

Edge bike computers are not activity trackers and will not be used for measuring your daily activities. You will use the Fenix for that. If you had two devices that are activity trackers you must select one of them to be "Preferred Activity Tracker".
