How is the speed color code on the map determined?

The deep red is the fastest section of your activity, and the deep blue is the slowest part. Everything in between is just linearly interpolated between the slowest and the fastest - so for example the threshold between green and yellow is around the middle between the slowest and the fastest speed recorded during your ride.

thanks for the quick response, however I understand what you are saying, but I don’t understand how the fastest and slowest are determined. I seldom if ever get in the red, does that mean I’m just a slow runner compared to others or compared to my average running speed?

The slowest and the fastest part of that specific activity. Nothing to do with other athletes, or with other activities of yours. Your fastest section is probably too short, to have the chance to see it on the map.

So I am just slow :( lol

No, not at all. It just means that the speed peak was short. It is a relative value. It does not tell anything about your average speed

ok ... but I see a huge diference between my previous FR35 and my new FR45 ....

Yesterday I did a test walk with both on my wrist. As I did a factory reset on my old FR35 it took a loooong time to sync the GPS position, this probably as an influence too.

Look for any discrepancies in the pace graph for both activities.
