My community in my Garmin connect app (IOS) shows people only from nepal, and has been that way since I visited there last winter. Is there anyway to change this? I checked my location and it says United States. Tons of random people are adding me from over there.. not sure what to do

  • Could you post a screenshot or description of how and where you see your community in the app?

The only people you see are your connections. Or do you mean when you search for a person? Do you only see people from Nepal in the search result?

  • Not sure what you mean under "community". As wrote it could be your Connections, but you should not be adding random people as connections, only your closest friends that you want to follow and share your activities with. You are not obliged to accept requests you get. Perhaps is your screen name eaasily visible in Nepal, or you already have someone from Nepal among your connections, and it has the avalanche effect, bringing all their friends to you. Remove unknown or unwanted people from your Connections, and do not accept new ones, unless you really want to.

Then, by the "community", you could also mean the Groups - you may be a member of a group with the majority of members from Nepal. If you do not want to be part of that group, simply leave it. You can join another one (or even multiple of them), better matching your location and/or your focus.

  • I should have specified. I did mean my connections, however now I’m looking at it again and I meant the challenges tab. Everyone who I’m “competing” with seems to be from nepal. I don’t accept friend requests from random people, and I haven’t joined any groups. I just keep getting friend requests from people from that area.

  • Here is what I see with every challenge I start. t.

  • Interesting. I've never noticed where people are from and I'm not usually doing the Weekly Steps Challenge so I haven't seen any pattern.

When I join now it looks like it is mostly people from Europe (not everyone writes their location) and I'm in Sweden.

Have you tried leaving the challenge and join again? When I test that I end up with the same group of people. Maybe you need to take a week off from the challenges and then join again the week after.

  • Same here. All the people that are displaying their location in my weekly challenge are in my country, USA. I don't have any connections with any of them. Figured it was some algorithm that was putting me in a group of similar members that have a history of completing about the same amount of weekly steps.

  • I guess it is even more obvious for a country like USA where you see American names for most people in the challenge. For me in Europe I see all kinds of names and never anyone from Sweden so I thought is was just random people from all around the world with the same amount of steps, but it seems to be some more rules used here.

  • When at start I joined weekly challenge, then it looked random, but after few challenges it changes to user's country and keeps that way. Some time I ended and re-entered and it hasn't changed a country.

Don't know how exactly this works, maybe it locks or maybe checks number of activities from a given country, or maybe need to quit challenges for longer.

It's good to check a location also here: https://www.garmin.com/account/profile/ as it's separated setting from Connect.
