Workplace having Total Steps of the Day competition. How to count activity steps into my steps of the day?

I am new to Garmin and I am very confused.

Our workplace is having a total steps weekly competition. Most of my steps of the day I get from my elliptical but those steps aren't accounted for in my daily total steps.

Is there a way I can get that so I can share the snapshot of the weekly accumulated steps with my team?

  • Try recording the elliptical workout as Treadmill Activity instead, to see whether it helps. If not, try attaching the watch to your ankle istead of the wrist.

  • recording as treadmill activity didnt work. So will be wearing on ankle now. Thanks for the idea.

  • Did the treadmill activity show the Cadence graph and did it contain some data, or was it completely flat? If there was no cadence data, then it looks like the movement of the treeadmill handles is too smooth, too slow, or too restricted, and the accelerometer in the watch does not identify it as steps. Hopefully wearing the watch on the ankle can help. If not, try keeping it just in the pocket (you'd need a HRM belt, though, in such case for the HR).

If nothing helps, then you'd need to assure you make stronger or quicker movements to wake up the accelerometer. Either by simply going faster / more energetically, or for exampe you could tap the handle bar with the hand wearing the watch, at each step.
