Chinese new year

Hi Andy,

I read in the blog that there's a badge for Year of the Ox but can't see it in the database

Will it appear some days before the 12th?

  • I will publish the badge as soon as Garmin releases the image and I see that it is released. That process isn't automated on my side. I previously ran scripts to check for new images, but it takes lots of server time to check all possible images and puts an unnecessary load on my and Garmin's servers and I don't want to be banned from accessing their servers.

    It is pretty much impossible to guess what number the badge will have. Year 2018 was number 127, 2019 was 203 and 2020 was 1086. There are lots of unused numbers between those numbers. Garmin is also using badges with numbers as high as 1000037 which is the "Chinese New Year's Eve" which is the highest number I've found. There are currently only a total of 351 badges.

    This close to the release of new badges I check multiple times per day for new images and other updates from Garmin so I should notice any updates within a few hours unless it is during my normal sleeping time 22:30 to 06:30 CET according to the setting in my FR945 :-)

    I also hope that the badge "Chinese New Year's Eve" will reappear this year as well. It will be the day before the "Year of the Ox".

  • Thank you very much Andy

    you're the best !

  • I had the same question let’s hope it appears soon

  • Nothing yet.

    We are also waiting for the Valentine badges for the 14th. No new dates set for them either.

    I can only advice you to do activities on 11th, 12th and 14th just in case Garmin forgets to update the dates for the user interfaces (web and apps), but changes it in the "badge validation system" that we don't see.

  • It is available in Garmin Connect now.

  • Hi Andy,

    thank you for the update;

    nothing new for Chinese New Year's Eve ?

    Strange that this badge didn't appear at he same time...

  • Nothing new on Chinese New Year's Eve. It might be a one time badge just like Australia Day which was available last year, but not this year.
