Zwift Rides No longer count towards Intensity Minutes

I understand that Zwift activities no longer count towards challenge badges but why would an activity imported from Zwift complete with heart rate data not count towards intensity minutes. For example I rode for an hour with an average heart rate of 165 but I didn’t have any intensity minutes for that day. I think that Garmin Connect is no longer any use for tracking fitness over time. Performance Status is pretty much useless if it is  picking and choosing some activities to work out your training load but ignoring other activities.

  • If you don't start an activity on your watch it will use the wrist heart rate and that is known to be hard to get right. It works pretty good while you are not doing any activities but as soon as you start to an activitiy there are many things that can go wrong.

Here is a support page about how to get better accuracy in the wrist heart rate: https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=xQwjQjzUew4BF1GYcusE59

A trick that might work but I haven't tested it is to start an activity on your watch during your Zwift ride and when the ride is over you just discard the activity on the watch. In that way the heart rate will be measured by the chest strap which is more accurate than the wrist measurement.

  • I posted a reply below when i suffered a similar problem. Since then I discovered what caused it for me. I had changed my activity class from 7 (real value) to 1. For some reason this caused many activities (not just Zwift rides) to not be counted as intensity minutes. My weekly average (1100 - 1400) dropped to 400. When I restored my activity class to 7, my system went back to recognising these activities.

  • That is exactly what my experience is. Everything from a Zwift ride goes across to Garmin, save for more recently the intensity minutes. Very annoying. And not good to see that Garmin does not seem to bother? Great stuff!
