Steps - one day missing after sync to Garmin Connect

I synchronized my Forerunner 945 to Garmin Connect (using the USB cable) after 15 days without synching. Everything went fine except for just one day (January 15th) where the number of steps was not synched and remained at 0, while the correct amount appeared on the watch.

What can I do to fix this issue on this day? It messed up with my daily steps goal streak. Another sync by Bluetooth did not change anything.

Thanks in advance for your help

No you're not alone. To create more visibility to your issue, I'm moving this thread to the Garmin Connect forum.

  • Well, I am afraid it is a bit too late for trying to save lost data from 15th January today. If you noticed it the same day, it could have possibly be salvaged, but I am afraid the lost monitoring file from 15th January was ovewriten long time ago, and is no more recoverable with tools like Recuva, etc.

I can only recommend syncing every evening, and verifying whether the step count transferred fully to the server, by visiting the web version of Garmin Connect. Only there, or on the Daily Steps graph in the app you can see whether the steps were really logged on the server. The card on the My Day screen shows just the live data, not the steps synced to the server.

  • Thanks for answering

Regarding lost data, it's a Forerunner 945, the data storage is more than enough to save a couple months of data... Indeed I can find 2 .fit files dated as of 15/01 (the missing day) in the \Forerunner 945\Primary\GARMIN\Metrics folder.... I've tried uploading these files but with no success - but when I try to import them I'm told that the files are already transfered

  • Zip them, and insert the zip file here (Insert » Image/video/file » upload), we can try to check what is in it

  • Unfortunately the data is stored without any verbose labels in those files - they differ from monitoring files containing the steps, on my device. I am not even sure whether files in the folder //GARMIN/Metrics/ contain the steps. I do not have any such folder - steps are in the folder //GARMIN/Monitoring/ on my Instinct. Perhaps  could have a look at those files with the FFR Tool. Unlike me, he may perhaps even have a personal experience with the FR945, and may be more familiar with the file structure it uses.
