why do the heart rate zones shown in the chart for an activity differ from the heart rate zones shown in the settings?

I can set maximum heart rate on my forerunner 35 and/or in the Garmin connect mobile app, and/or on the connect web page. I can also set the zones on the app or the web. When I log out, then go back in and check them, they are all correct. However, none of this seems to affect the zones shown in the activity. My Max heart rate is the correct 155 in the settings and the zones in the settings are the correct %. I synch the device. I go for a run, then check again. All ok. But in the "activities", the max heart rate is always shown as 172 with corresponding (wrong) percents. I cannot alter this. Why? What am I missing?

  • Did you check the HRZ settings directly on the watch? Don't you have multiple HRZ profiles defined there? (i.e. one for running, one for cyling, and a third default one)

  • Thanks  - I can’t see the zones on my watch. Only the maximum heart rate setting. Where would I find them?

  • Try checking the user manual. Typically it is in the User Profile section of the settings, and although I owned the FR35 a few years ago, I do not remember exactly, and am lazy right now to look it up in the manual for you.

  • Many thanks - I’ll certainly check...

  • Thanks Trux- I have re-checked the manual, and been through the entire device menu. I cannot see or edit the zones on the device. Only the Max HR. The problem appears to be in Connect. The zones in the "Settings" and "profile" there are ok. It's just when the "time in zone" chart appears in "Activities" that the zones there are completely wrong.  for you

  • Only the Max HR.

And is the  Max HR identicall to the one in the HR Zone settings in Garmin Connect?

If it is all right, then another reason might be that your FR35 is associated with multiple accounts. That's a very frequent problem, when people mistakenly hit the Sign Up button instead of Sign In, or when they reinstall the app, or install it on a new phone. The other account might be overriing the settings from the one you currently use. Carefully follow the instructions from the support document Data is Missing from My Garmin Account After Syncing to resolve the issue.

  • Well I’m not sure what the initial cause was, but  with signing in and out on all my devices and syncing individually from all of them in both directions again, the problem seems to have been solved. So maybe it was what you suggested. Anyways, many thanks. The problem is now solved and all the heart rate zones are correct on connect ‘activities’.
