Garmin Forerunner - Units status and FIT file error

B1C65556.zipPlease can someone assist? I have a Garmin Forerunner and always have to change my Units status to Kilometers before I run - defaults to Miles all the time. Additionally, I did a run this am but it did not record and I have the FIT file but it keeps giving me an error message when I try to upload:We don't support the file type you tried to import. Please can someone assist!!

  • I have a Garmin Forerunne

There are perhaps 20 different Forerunner models, so I cannot look up your user manual for the way to change the units, but if you open the respective manual yourself, and search for "units" or "metric", it should show you how to set the units permanently in the system or user settings.

Please note, that there is also a setting for the units in the User Settings of Garmin Connect, so make sure it is set to the metric system there too.

Sorry, have a Forerunner 35. I have tried all of the suggestions but for some reason it keeps defaulting to Miles. Im considering setting it back to default settings and hopefully that could work. I have only had it for a month. Thank you for the suggestions.

  • Just for the case, you are not setting it on the right place, this is the age where it is in your user manual:

    https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/forerunner35/EN-US/GUID-70C3836B-3180-49A7-99C2-57A4AB0E9329.html

And then, there is a separate setting for the auto-lap distance, that is independent from the metric/imperial setting.

If the simple changing of the units does not help, try toggling them to miles, restarting the watch, then setting them to metric system and restarting the watch again.

  • Additionally, I did a run this am but it did not record and I have the FIT file but it keeps giving me an error message when I try to upload:We don't support the file type you tried to import.

Regarding the corrupt fit file, try this - B1C65556-fixed.zip

Unzip the file then import into Garmin Connect using the import data page.

Repaired using Fit File Repair Tool.

Some tips to help minimize the occurrence of corrupt fit files:

    • Keep the number of files in the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder on the device’s file system to a minimum using these directions: Removing Recorded Activities on a Garmin Fitness Device
    • If you delete the files in your activity folder with a Mac computer, then empty the trash folder before you unplug your device from the computer.
    • Try to avoid excessive button presses during your activity.
    • Regularly check for firmware updates.
    • If issues with corrupt files persist, contact Garmin Support.
