How to change activity defaults. 920xt

I have put "walking" as a profile on my 920xt but when it syncs to GC, the activity shows up as hiking. I know I can edit it manually, but am lazy, lol and don't want to have to edit every time! I also have a profile for body boarding, which always shows up as " cardio" which I manually change to surfing ( when I remember!) So same issue, can I somehow set the watch or my GC so that these activities load automatically as the correct activity type?  I also have "Snowboarding" but it always shows up as " resort alpine skiing"   How do I fix these?! I have running & indoor running, cycling & indoor cycling, and multisports seem to be fine, under the correct activity typed  when uploaded & not need changing...

  • If the activity type is not available on the watch, then probably the only way to have it saving the sessions under the right activity type, is hacking the definition FIT file in the folder //GARMIN/Sports/ manually, using a tool for editing FIT files, such as the FIT File Repair Tool, or the FIT SDK.

Probably the simplest way to do it, is finding someone with another Garmin watch model that already contains that type of sport definition file, and using it as the template, replacing the Device ID, and the S/N in it, to match your device. You'll need some experience with the FIT files, though.

There are some hints that may perhaps help a bit, in the thread Backcountry Skiing Activity Profile

  • Thanks for that advice & the link, trux. I will give that a try, and hopefully don't muck it up Grin Fingers crossed
