Running steps not being counted on a single activity

Hi all.

I am experiencing a strange behaviour of Garming Connect web.

Usually for any running activity I do, GC is counting my steps and adding them to the daily total.

Yesterday I did my long run (25k) and I don't understand why it is not counting any step.

Anyone has a solution?

Thanks

  • Did not you, by mistake, start a Cycling activity, instead of Running? Steps are not counted during a Cycling activity, during Running they are. Another possibility would be if you've run on a treadmill and held on the railings, or ran outdoors while pushing a pram or a caddy - when the hand with the watch does not move, the steps cannot be detected.

  • Thanks for the answer.

Nope, none of the options you mentioned. I did as always: start my running activity and go. No treadmill, no caddy.

It happened again yesterday. New run, no steps counted.

I suspect it could be correlated to the interaction of my two devices. I have a Fenix5 and a VivosmartHR for daily use. When I go running I take off and shut down the Vivosmart and put on the Fenix5.

I know that if I keep both devices on, steps are counted twice. Maybe if I take off the Vivosmart I should leave it on (sitting on the table) while running with the Fenix? Weird but it's the only idea I have.

  • You have to set the device you want to use for the tracking as the Preferred Activity Tracker in its Device Settings.

  • Steps are not counted twice. The TrueUp feature, if enabled, uses the steps from the device that has the most steps during a time span. So you can wear both devices and not worry about that.

  • Thank you guys.

First, I realized I did not activate before the TrueUp feature on my Fenix5. Now I did... let's see.

Yet, I still don't undersand why this would happen SOMETIMES. If it was a matter of wrong setting, GC would not record steps while running ever. On the contrary it is recording steps in some runs and not in others.

I also wonder wether it is more convenient to keep the Preferred Activity Tracker option on the Vivosmart or the Fenix. I would like not to loose steps on either devices.

  • The primary tracker is needed for sleep tracking so perhaps that's your answer.

  • Resuming this thread because I changed my Fenix5 to a Fenix6 and the problem is back again. TrueUp is enabled, Fenix is the primary tracker (although it shouldn't matter) but all my runs steps are not counted. If I go to the steps page, when the runnign is marked there are no steps.

  • Could you post a screenshot showing the problem, and also a link to the concerned run activity?

You could also try the hint #4 from the Troubleshooting guide for (some) data missing after syncing

  • As you can see I did a 10k run around 4pm (green mark) and the steps count is flat.

This is happening with all the runs since I bought the new Fenix6

  • Ain't you, by hazard, run on a treadmill, keeping your hands on the handlebars?
