Enhancement suggestion: Allow for manual input of consumed calories and body fat percentage

Heya all,

I see over 10 year old (!) threads that portray the demand of manually inputting daily consumed calories and/or body fat % in Garmin Connect.

To me that doesn't seem like a lot of work to code and I can not wrap my head around why it's not already implemented (again).

I really do like the hardware and the algorithms garmin uses but not being able to log these things manually is kind of a deal breaker for my next buy. Which actually is quite sad because it seems to be such an easy fix.

If I buy a device for a couple hundred euros I really expect basic features from the companion app.

So I'd like to know if there are any plans to implement this feature?

Create a free account at MyFitnessPal, link it to Garmin Connect, and enter the calories there - they will be synced automatically to GC.

Body fat can be entered there too, though currently I think it does not transfer to Garmin Connect, but you can track the history directly in MFP.

  • That's a tip I've heard a lot now.

But honestly what's that supposed to be? I don't pay hundres of euros for a device just to miss basic functions literally every other company has. Working around this by installing third-party apps is not sufficient.

If your car was missing a steering wheel would you accept your car dealer telling you that you could simply mount a joystick?
    I don't think so.
So how comes it is more acceptable to commit to a laborious workaround instead of asking for an easily implemented feature by the company who's getting my money?

Also MFP being located in the states I really don't have any intention to give them data that is that sensitive.

Just trying to help, and offering the way you can achieve what you asked for, instantly. If you do not need to enter the Calories now, request the feature at Garmin, and wait till they implement it. This is a user forum for the mutual help, not the channel for the communication with Garmin (go to https://support.garmin.com for that)

BTW, Garmin is located in the USA too. MFP is their business partner complementing some of the functionality Garmin Connect does not offer directly (or is not willing to spend the resources on). There is nothing malicious on it. Garmin tries focusing on the hardware and the basic functionality. There are plenty of complementary features offered by 3rd parties. That's why Garmin offers an API for extending their servies - they cannot implement all the thousands of features requested by users.
