Manual activities not counted towards challenges.

My wife’s Vivoactive 3 has a broken screen so while we wait for a replacement device from Garmin she is manually adding her activities in the Garmin Connect app...the problem we’ve come across is these manual activities aren’t been counted towards her monthly challenges that’s she’s a part of on the app. The watch itself is actually “still working” as her sleep, heart rate and steps are still been tracked and updated on the app when she syncs...it’s just the screen that’s not working.

I’ve searched the net and the forums for solutions but havnt come across the same issue. Does anyone know why manually added activities don’t count towards challenge goals? Is there a way to make them count? It’s a shame she’s potentially loosing a week of progress on her challenges.

Thanks!

  • It's the same reason manually added activities don't count for Strava challenges / leaderboards / etc: to prevent casual cheating.

he watch itself is actually “still working” as her sleep, heart rate and steps are still been tracked and updated on the app when she syncs...it’s just the screen that’s not working.

But those steps are counted as part of 24/7 activity tracking and not activities on the watch, right? If I joined a challenge to run 200 km, and my watch recorded the equivalent # of steps, but I didn't actually record any running activities, I would fail that challenge.

  • If she remembers how to start activities without looking at the screen she can still record activities. The manual can also guide you.

A trick to use is to create a really short activity for just a second or so. Save it. Then edit that activity in Garmin Connect to reflect what she really did.

Another trick to use is to export an old activity. Change the id in the FIT file. There should be 3rd party tools to do that. I don't know any now but I vaguely remember seeing that option when I was fiddling with FIT files. And then upload it to Garmin Connect and change the values to the correct ones. She could also use your FIT files to avoid needing to change the FIT file id.

TCX files might be possible to use (works for ordinary badges and should work with challenge badges) and I don't think that those got any ID checks.
