Corrupt fit file on my VA3+Music

Hello everyone. Happy New Year !

Today I wanted to try my new HRM Pro with my VA3 and went running 6,5km as shown on my screen. About 1,5 or 2 km before the end of my run, the music stopped working, but the tracking went on without any issue and I saved it.

When I tried syncing my watch and HRM on the Garmin Connect App, the activity didn't show up. The watch rebooted on its own. I dediced to extrat the fit file from my watch with my computer.

But now that I try to update it on garmin connect or Strava, both platforms say that the file cannot bu uploaded.

I believe my file is corrupt. I have seen people on this forum "fixing" corrupt fit file. Is anyone able to help me doing this ? Or maybe explain me how to make that (and why not prevent it from happening again ? Slight smile )

Fit file I managed to extract for my VA3Music:

2021-01-01-11-11-17.zip

Thanks in advance.

  • In the event log of this activity there is only a "start," no stop. The crash occurred at around the 30 minute mark, with no timestamps or GPS data after that. Repaired FIT file - 2021-01-01-11-11-17-fixed.zip

Unzip the file then import into Garmin Connect using the import data page.

Repaired using Fit File Repair Tool.

(and why not prevent it from happening again ?

Won't prevent it, but hopefully minimize the occurrence of corrupt files:

    • Keep the number of files in the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder on the device’s file system to a minimum using these directions: Removing Recorded Activities to Free Up Space on a Garmin Fitness Device
    • If you delete the files in your activity folder with a Mac computer, then empty the trash folder before you unplug your device from the computer.
    • Regularly check for firmware updates.
    • If issues with corrupt files persist, contact Garmin Support.
  • Ah bummer !

"The crash occurred at around the 30 minute mark, with no timestamps or GPS data after that." ->

Yes ! That's roughly when the Spotify app crashed and that the watch face disappeared too. Now that I think about it, the CIQ app couldn't update both elements when I tried to sync it with my phone. I believe now that both elements were still queueing to be updated.

Too bad for me haha. I am super happy you could salvage the file though ! I'm recovering from an injury, and the stats you managed to salvage are enough to analyse my running dynamics ! Thanks a lot !

Thanks for the pieces of advice to !
