one account, two systems of workouts

Hi,

I have been using this Garmin connect account for 8 years, then I added another garmin device(a new watch) into my account two years ago, everything was fine until one year ago, I uploaded my running workouts by Garmin express, then I checked the workouts by clicking the button on Garmin express which could jump into the connect website directly without asking you to log in. I didn't pay attention at first, until recently I was looking for a marathon record 5 years ago, I surprisingly found that the workouts system which I was using for two years ONLY have the list of the workouts for the past two years. Then I went to the Garmin connect website and log in, I found all the old workouts but there are no new workouts.  I double check these two accounts info, the usernames and passwords are same, then I realize that there are two systems under my account,  this is really weird, could anyone help me to figure this out?

Thank you!

  • Check the web addresses. Are you using https://connect.garmin.cn/ for one of the logins and https://connect.garmin.com/ for the other?

    Thank you!!!

I think you are right, Garmin set up a new server for China Mainland seperately, too sad... now I have to move all my old workouts into the new system.

  • Garmin set up a new server for China Mainland seperately, too sad

I would not blame Garmin, since I do not quite believe that Garmin did it voluntarily (it sure costs a lot of money and effort, keeping two independent systems). More probably it was the condition of the Chinese Government, willing to have more control over the content of the website, and censhorhip options, that could not be acceptable due to privacy laws in most other countries. Hence separating the servers was clearly the only solution.

  • If a tourist from outside China goes to China (assuming the lockdown doesn't continue into perpetuity), will the tourist's activities show up on the global server, or will they only appear on the Chinese server?

  • If you manage to log into connect.garmin.com, then the activities will be in your habitual account. However, I have no idea whether the domain connect.garmin.com is not blocked by the Chinese Government, and redirected to connect.garmin.cn instead. If it is, then you would have to use a VPN, and connecting to connect.garmin.com over it. Though it may be illegal in China. You better ask some locals.
