Invalid file while syncing but no such file can be found on the device

I've been getting a message while syncing on the computer, "Some files could not be uploaded to Garmin Connect" with detail: "Dec 16, 2016 (Invalid file)". The watch does not sync over bluetooth any longer and no file on the device exists with that modification time. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Are all of your activities uploading to Garmin Connect? Assume you are looking in \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder from file explorer on your computer? Please zip the problematic fit files and attach to your post using the Insert function. We can take a look and see what the issue is and hopefully repair them.

that's just the thing - i can't find the problematic file. no file with that date exists in my activities. also i don't mind losing the old ones if that's what it is. but i think it may be blocking the bluetooth sync because the only way i can get my new activities is by using the USB. The garmin watch does connect via bluetooth to my phone but always says it is il to date and doesn't upload new files.

The concerned file is not necessarily an Activity file in the folder //GARMIN/Activity/. It can be also a monitoring file in the folder //GARMIN/Monitoring/. Theoretically it could be also a file in the Courses, Sleep, or Settings folders, and perhaps even in some others. You may want to have a look at the Device Sync Audit in the settings of the GC Mobile app, after one of the failed BT syncs - there might be also the name and/or the location of the file.

I found "App Diagnostics" on the mobile app which is also labeled GCM Diagnostics and it looks like a list of settings as key-value pairs. not sure if any of the ids shouldn't be shared so i won't post. doesn't look like a log with messages...

  • I learned Device Sync Audit is available only on the Android app, so if you are on an iPhone, you are out of luck. If removing the monitoring files (if any exist for the concerned date) does not help, you may need to contact the Customer Support.

Thanks for your help. Will post in the thread what ends up solving the issue.
