Corrupt Haleakala .fit

Former Member
Former Member

I've been sitting on this file for several years.  Of literally thousands of rides, it's the only one that I ever "lost", and of course it was my biggest.  I haven't had luck with any of the online tools that I've tried.  Is anybody willing to take a shot?

I had to rename the extension from .fit to .zip to get it to upload.2016-06-06-08-37-04.zip

Regards,

John

  • Not sure if something got lost in the renaming. I changed it back to .fit extension then ran it through Fit File Repair tool and got this message "294907 bytes of the file are corrupted and could not be repaired." The entire file is corrupted.

Can you try to attach your file again, but this time actually compress it to a zip file, not just rename? Thanks.

I just took the whole folder and compressed it here:

    GARMIN.zip

Thank you for giving it a look.

  • Sorry, but I got the same error message.

Thanks for trying.  That's what I've been seeing also.

  • GARMIN.zip

The file in your Zip archive is not a FIT file. It is a TCX file that someone incorrectly renamed to *.fit. However, it is not complete - it contains only 8 kBytes of headers, and some more or less uninteresting data, and all the rest of the 294 kB are just blank characters. You can open the file with Notepad or any text or XML editor, if you are interested about the content. Unlike the binary FIT file format, this one is human-readable.

So, unless you have another version of that file, there is practically nothing to get from this one.
