When I record treadmill walks or runs in MFP the mileage I enter does not sync over to Garmin step challenge.

My total steps for the day in MFP also does not sync to the December Step Challenge

Neither of it is supposed to happen. It is the opposite way it works - activities you do with your Garmin device are synced to MFP, not vice versa. Only consumed Calories (food), and pssobly the weight are transferred to MFP to GC.

Record your steps, and treadmill walks or runs with a Garmin device, and you'll be fine.

Thank you. I did add my 4 mile treadmill walk in Garmin and it was not added into the December 30 Mile Challenge. Everyday I’ve recorded my 4 mile walk and only 1 day has shown up. It is not adding correctly

You have to record the walks with a Garmin device. Manually entered or imported activities do not count for challenges and badges.

I guess my Vivofit3 does not register treadmill walks. However, at the end of the day my VivioFit3 says I walked 7.73 miles however that doesn’t register on the step challenge either

    Make walks outdoors.

For the step challenge the miles are unimportant. It is the number of steps that counts.

  • About walking challenge, any idea why hiking activities doesn't count for the "December Walking"? Because from my side I always walk during hike, not the point of view of Garmin?

  • The simple anser is that Hiking is a different activity type than Walking. Walking (and its subtypes) are the only ones that count for the walking challenges.

If you check the list of activity types you will see how it works with activity types and subtypes.

Hiking is a main activity type with no subtypes. Walking is a main activity type with two subtypes: Casual and Speed Walking.

  • Ok but that's the point, why separate hiking from walking? MTB are set as subtypes of cycling. Have a look of the winter sport's subtypes, logic is strange :-/

Nobody knows, but Garmin. And even that is not sure. Anyway, you will not get the answer, since we, here on the user forum, do not know it, and Garmin will not comment.
