Footbike - add to activities

We have been requesting for years for footbike to be added to the activities in Garmin Connect.  There are so many more obscure and less patronised sports available to selected.  PLEASE ADD FOOTBIKE!!!

  • Why don't you add it yourself as a custom activity?

  • Which device are you using? Unless it's a lower-end edge device or an older watch, then you should have the ability to create a custom activity profile for footbike, as mentioned by .

  • thanks for your interest.  Both my Edge and watch are old devices. Also I am not the only person asking for this to occur.

  • As long as Garmin doesn't add the possibility for people to add their own custom activity types I guess there will always be additional types that people want to add. But since the list today is fixed and finite, it's Garmin's choice for which activities to place there. Adding new ones typically happens with the introduction of a new device type, like the Descent watches and then there were a lot of diving activities.

But it's less chance that anyone from Garmin sees, let alone takes action, just because we write it in this forum. It's mainly a peer-to-peer forum for ordinary users to discuss. You have a better chance if you submit your idea to Garmin directly.

In that case simply enter the keyword "Footbike" into the title of your footbike activities. It will allow you filtering the activities with this keyword, and showing them separately from normal cycling, in GC Web. Having a separate category does not do anything else anyway. If you are hoping for a different calculation of Calories, then it is a false hope - the calclulation is based purely on the HR and the HR Variability, so it is not depending on the activity name.

There is no way Garmin would add all the different bike types - there may be more than hundred of them, though up and then they do add some new categories. For example I have the feeling the categories Cyclocross, Downhill Biking, Recumbent Cycling, and possibly some others are relatively new. However, as  wrote, the forum posts have little or no impact on the decisions at Garmin - more impact may have demands through their Idea submission form, and then especially official requests from bigger associations.

... and also, even with an old device, you can hack the custom Activity profile manually by copying and editing the cycling FIT file from the folder //GARMIN/Sports/ and then placing the edited file back in that folder. Some more details about the way how to do it, are explained for example in the thread: Backcountry Skiing Activity Profile, though unlike there, you would have to keep the original IDs, changing just the name of the activity.

  •  footbike from f3b is avalable now, but not for my Edge500
