Training status not updating in Garmin Connect Android app

Hi. For the last week or so my Training Status is not updating and taking into account my cycling activities. I haven’t changed anything on my Edge 520 or on my Forerunner 645M. There was a recent upgrade to version 7 software on the 645M and the issue seems to have started since then. I have done the usual checks and made sure True Up is still on and resynched all devices but GC still not updating Training Status even though the ride has been uploaded successfully with all the correct details.

Is anyone else having this issue or had it and fixed it? Thanks

  • Same issue with Edge 530 & 645 Music (iPhone app)- except I noticed it after the edge update, so I upgraded the 645M - same issue.

    Training load on Edge - High - 1890, for 645 - 640=recovery for last 2 week.

I noticed around 12/3, but looks like it started after 11/28

Started 2 chats with no success or resolution - both ended up disconnecting after telling me I needed Power meter data for cycling load  - which has never been the case.

  • If this is something that's happening in the Android app, should you post the problem to the Connect Android app board, not the Connect Web board?

  • Not app specific issue - Connect issue. (I am iOS) same problem as OP. App just conveys the data from Connect - both are identically incorrect.

  • By way of an update: I have had two chats with different people and a support ticket has been raised with the developers. I have unpaired and repaired both devices as well as other advice given to me by Garmin, but no joy. In fact the person in the second chat stated that I should never have been getting training status updates as the Edge 520 does not give this information, which I knew anyway. My rides are recorded on the 520 but the watch seems to pick up an IQ event automatically and I am guessing it is from here I was getting the Training status updates. But since the upgrade to Ver 7 software on the watch I am no longer getting Training status updates. Hence it has now been passed to the techies to investigate further

  • I rolled back firmware to 6.70 on 645M and training status is now functioning.  All of the load data went into one day, so jumped from 640 to 1355 - recovery to productive.

  • That’s good to know! I’ll wait to see what Garmin come back with before doing that, but at least it is an option. Was it easy to roll back to the earlier firmware?

  • It was a little cumbersome but once I figured out to delete the existing Bluetooth connection and repair it went smoother.
unfortunately - It updated back to 7.0 this morning even though I unchecked the Update Apps box in connect appGrimacing

Here is the response I received from support- basically our watches were working incorrectly since we purchased and version 7 “fixed” them

Thank you for the update. It looks like the update to 7.0 is actually working by design, but the previous version was not - as that is not information that is compatible with the 645 Music. To get this reported to our engineering team, please provide the following:....

  • I suspected this would be their answer as unit was mentioned in the second chat I had with them. I have provided files from both my Edge and 645M for the developers to investigate so we’ll see if they come back with anything other than ‘it’s now working correctly’. That’s annoying it has returned to ver 7. I’ll keep you updated when I hear back from Garmin.

  • Did you ever get a resolution here?  I started riding with power meter so I figured I’d allow my watch to update. Version 7 gave me the same training load problem as before. I had been running v6.7 since December and guess I will be going back….

  • Hi, I have not heard anything back from Garmin. In the meantime though my Edge 520 failed and I ended up buying a new 530 which gives me the training status updates. So this is no longer an issue for me.
