BUG: Run lactate threshold changes while not running

You can see two lactate threshold changes - Tuesday and Wednesday... however, I only ran on Tuesday. (The other is a coach scheduled run)

Given the values, I think it's picking up the swim HR as the lactate threshold. It feels like a bug or defect, but if there's a setting I'm missing, please let me know.

  • I think it's picking up the swim HR as the lactate threshold.

It would make sense, since it is the same body with same metabolism that is being measured. The LT is a property of your body (and its metabolism), not the property of the discipline you perform. On the other hand I am not quite sure Garmin watches measure LT or VO₂max during swimming. Could be perhaps rather from the cycling activity.

  • My tested running and cycling thresholds are circa 165, so they're consistent with LT being a property of my body. The 130 and 147 values don't really makes sense though. (147 was possibly from kick drill, or, as you suggested, the MTB ride). The highest I can get my HR in the pool is 158 based on recent sessions (with the exception of kick drills which my heart despises)

Also, the report is "Running" - so there should be no value recorded on the days I didn't run.

Thinking this through though, I notice that there's no Lactate Threshold chart for Cycing or Swimming... so based on Lactate HR being a body property, the HR *does* make sense to have it for all exercises - it's just they've categorized the report to running due to Lactate Threshold pace. The 130, 147 numbers still don't make sense though... especially when you compare to last six months.

  • Yes, the report should be actually under All Activities. It is probably in the Run category for historical reasons, since from the articles at Garmin.com it looks like originally LT was measured during running only. The article do not even mention cycling, let alone swimming or other disciplines.

You should consider contacting the Customer Support and directly asking whether the LT is measured also in other Activity types than running, and suggest them to move the report, if it indeed shows cummulated data.
