Corrupted FIT File

Former Member
Former Member

Hi,

I've tried the various websites but unable to fix my ride data recorded today? Which is always annoying. My garmin appeared to crash during saving.

Is anyone able to kindly have a look at this file and help me out?

I'm going to look at clearing out the activities on the device as mentioned on previous posts, as it is from a fairly old device. Edge 810.

Many Thanks Alex

  • Hi. Like other users I only have access to a Mac and have been unable to fix my .fit file using the online tools. I've actually been trying to get this to work for more than two years! If anyone is able to help I would be unbelievably grateful.

  • Sorry, accidently removed my post which also removed your reply and  Former Member's response. Former Member had discovered that the Manufacturer and Product info was missing from the file and filled it in for an Edge 520. Nice job! Slight smile

Hi there, thanks so much for everyone's advice and offers of support.  I have a file that I have recovered following the FitFileRepairTool, but Strava still fails saying the file is malformed.  The FFRT advice is that there is a big jump in elevation...?  I would be most grateful if someone could have a look at this and repair my ride file - please!

Former Member, is your attached FIT file the one you recovered? If so, do you still have the original? Which tool did you use? The free online FIT File Tools, or something else? It appears that data recording stopped abruptly at about 1.5 km into the activity. At that point there is, as you state, a huge gap in the altitude, along with no longitudinal position.

After that is adjusted, I came up with this. 10_04_2020-fixed.zip

I'm sure your ride was longer, but there is no further data to show it, which is why I'm asking if you tried repairing already and the original fit file might have the missing data.

The Edge 500 was released 11 years ago (2009), so hopefully you can keep it alive. Suggest doing some maintenance on your Edge 500 by making sure all activities are synced, then attaching USB cable to computer and removing the FIT files within the \Garmin\Activity folder.

yes, Seilogramp - it is an old Garmin 500...but it has served me well! Thank you for having a look at it and your advice.

It was an 86km ride, so I am surprised that it did not record - but the device may not have had room.  I have deleted old rides just in case to avoid it in future.

Here is the original discovered file, just in case.  I fear that the Garmin was out of room to record and failed...but it still shows a greater file volume (88kb) than my shorter rides. Strange.

I used a discovery tool and the FFRT.2020-10-04-08-52-51.zip

  • Would anyone be able to help?

I completed the Virtual London Marathon and the data will not sync with Garmin or Strava, sad times as this was my first marathon.

, congrats on the marathon! Clap

There was one data record with strange GPS data, after I removed that, the FIT file uploaded fine.

Unzip this fit file - AA494122-fixed.zip, then upload it using the Garmin Connect Import Data page.

Former Member, I tried to repair it again, but came up with the same result:

87255 bytes of the file are corrupted and could not be repaired.

  • OMG you are the ABSOLUTE best person in the world. I am so grateful. Thank you SO much for helping me. This means so much to have the data on garmin/strava
