How to sync/upload a "Casual walking" or "Speed walking" activity into Garmin Connect? And: Why do some activities get synced with the correct name and others don't?

Hi!

I noticed that there are two activity categories called "Casual walking" and "Speed walking". However, I haven't found a way to actually sync/upload an activity from my Garmin Fenix 6 Pro watch into those categories. Is it true that the only way to have an activity in those categories is to manually change the category in Garmin Connect, or is there a way to assign the category already on the watch when recording the activity? What I already tried to do is to copy the running activity on my watch and rename it as "Casual walking". Unfortunately, however, it didn't work, as it was synced as a "normal" walk into Garmin Connect. Indeed, it seems that the name created on the watch ("Casual walking") for that specific activity doesn't play any role at all, as that name does not appear anywhere on Garmin Connect.

On the other hand, an activity that I have named "Stretching" (made from the "Other" activity on the watch) does sync as "Stretching" into Garmin Connect. Why do some activities get synced with the correct name and others don't?

Thanks in advance for any help:)

  • Just experimented with it. It is not possible to modify the distance of "Walk indoor" activity via the watch or Garmin Connect Android App, but it is possible to change it later via connect.garmin.com. "Walk indoor" requires GPS, but it is possible to create a new activity type based on this one without GPS. Might be a good idea after all, will try it. Thanks.

  • I do not see Walk Indoor in my Garmin Connect, so cannot test it, but at any standard Walk activity I can edit the distance also in the GCM app, not only on the web (and can do it at any other activity type as well), so I would be surprised if it was different with the indoor walk.

It also sounds strange that an indoor walk activity profile would use GPS - makes absolutely no sense. Isn't is rather a custom profile you created by copying the standard Walk activity? Anyway you can turn the GPS off in any activity profile, and since the GPS has no sense indoors, I'd definitely disable it in the Walk Indoor profile.

"Walk indoors" as a separate activity profile is not available via Garmin Connect App (just checked it), but I can choose it in my Garmin Forerunner 935. After synchronization it appears in Garmin Connect as "Walking". I suspect this activity profile might not be available in other Garmin models.

Yes, you are right. I made a mistake. Was not attentive enough while testing it. I can not edit distance via the watch, but I can do it later via Garmin Connect.

Agree, it makes no sense. But I did "Restore Defaults" for "Walk indoors" profile, and after that GPS appears to be enabled.

I suspected it. I have experimented a lot with my watch over the last 3.5 years. I tried to completely remove this activity profile from my watch (via "Remove App"). After that it still appears to be available in the list of activities via "Add" command. Probably a feature of Forerunner 935.

I also considered using foot pod and even tried to buy Garmin Foot Pod in the past, it is expected to provide more or less reliable measurements when on a treadmill. But it is not available in my country. And it seems that current Garmin Foot Pod model is not available anymore (I am talking about Foot Pod 010-11092-00, according to Google it was discontinued in 2019). Probably need to look for other foot pod models compatible with Garmin.

Files removed from the folder //GARMIN/Sports/ will reappear again after you have deleted them manually over USB. The only way you can remove a custom activity profile is by performing the Master Reset of the watch.
