What's the purpose of changing the "event type" of an activity?

What are some benefits / best practices / ways to use the feature of changing the "event type" of an activity in Garmin Connect?

  • It is so those people who bought eg a Garmin Adventure watch and go Hiking can change the activity to Walking in Connect so that the mileage accrued counts towards challanges and badges. It is really idiotic by Garmin to not put Hiking as a sub category of Walking in the same way that MTB is a sub category of Cycling.

  • no, that is not event type. You mean type of activity.

  • Hi Tilman,

if you dont see a use case, dont use it ;-)
Its interesting if you want to filter activities. You can go to all activities, pick up all running actives and then say "show me all competitions". That is only possible if you marked it as competitive activity

Thank you :) Regarding seeing a use case, as I'm still a new user of Garmin, I'm in the learning process and, thus, eager to learn about hidden features that I'm not (yet) aware of :) Indeed, I just learned something new! Previously, I had created a separate running activity (called "Race") for competitive activities, but your described solution seems indeed more elegant. So thanks again.

  • You are right, I misunderstood.
