Convert units for individual workouts?

Can I convert the distance units for individual workouts? Garmin Connect recently began automatically converting track workouts from miles to meters. I understand why some users might like that, with tracks being measured in meters, but I don't. I don't like having a mix of measurements on my calendar, and tallying the total meters for a long interval or tempo workout, where I'm including recovery laps, doesn't make sense. I'm more interested in seeing how the total mileage of a workout factors into my weekly mileage.

  • Your units of measure is set in your Connect profile, so each user can select their own preference. Captured workouts will show distances in the set unit for the moment, but laps etc. of already done workout will adhere to the old settings (so if you have it set to metrics and you defined that auto-lap should be 1 KM and you switch to view it in miles, it will show each lap being 0.62 miles).

  • My Connect profile has always been set to "statute," but if I classify my workout as "Track Running," Connect has recently begun automatically showing my distance in metric. I want it to display ALL my workouts in statute, whether on the road, track, trail, or treadmill.

  • Aha! Well, it seems that track run is designed only for use in meters - at least according to the 745 manual and I guess it would be the same for other devices that support track running, and apparently Garmin Connect as well. It's a new feature that you may have read about.

So I guess the solution would be to not use the activity type "Track Running"

"How is distance displayed in the Track Run profile?

Watches that support the Track Run profile will automatically display, and upload, distance in meters.  This is the most common distance measurement used for track workouts.  Watches that have a unit of measurement set to Statute can still view distance in miles by customizing the data fields for the track run profile or scroll to screen #2.  See your Owner's Manual for information about customizing the data fields on your watch."
