Why don't swim sessions of a training plan add to the calendar/sync with 945 watch?

I have just purchased the Garmin 945 and have added the Garmin Olympic triathlon training plan to my calendar as a starting training plan. The cycle and run sessions sync with the watch but the swim sessions do not - does anyone know why? Apart from entering them manually I don't think there is any other way of adding them.

  • Are you referring to the calendar view, or are you sure swimming is not syncing to Garmin Connect and you do not see swimming anywhere in your activity list on Garmin Connect Web? Verify that you do not have the swimming activity filtered out of the calendar view. Under Activities, you should have everything checked.

Hi  if you use the Garmin own training plans, the run or cycle sessions (i.e. 20 min warm up, 45 min run, 10 min cool down) show up on the calendar for the relevant date (for me in purple) and you can sync this with your watch. If you start the activity on the 945 it has the session there for you on the relevant day.

However, the swim sessions (i.e. 200m warm up etc), doesn't come up in either the calendar view - its a note rather than a session - or transfer to your watch. The only way I have found to do this is to add the session as a workout and it then syncs.

Don't get me wrong I am being UTTERLY lazy here by trying to avoid creating the workouts myself each time, but thought it was strange how the swim sessions are not created.

Ultimately, I think its down to the fact that Garmin probably sell more run/cycle equipment than multi-sport.

  • Indeed, the triathlon training plans do not include pre-programmed swim workouts, just written notes on what to do. I think the reason for this is that swimming workouts are a fairly recent addition to garmin connect (and garmin devices). The triathlon training plans are much older, and no one took care to update them to include real swimming workouts when the swimming workout feature appeared in garmin connect. Another reason might be to avoid breaking compatibility with older devices that do not have swimming workout support.
