Error Downloading Courses from Garmin Connect to Edge 510

I am having this problem now. It worked previously.

Any route I create (Strava or garmin connect) download, but when you load it everything is zero and there is no route :(.This started after the garmin hack.

  • Can you explain the process you're using? I use Garmin Connect Web to draw the course, then save it. I then either use the web "send to device" with Garmin Express or the Connect android app to send the course to my Garmin device. Has been working consistently for quite a while. Possibly an issue with your Edge 510? Do you have an excessive amount or courses and activities saved on your Edge? Could you send a link to one of the courses you created (you'll need to make it public) from here: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/courses

    Thanks for the thoughtful reply!

I have been using two appraoches:

    • Creating a route with Strava, which is linked to my Garmin account and that downloads the route to the 510.
    • Using the Connect app on my phone.

Both were failing, leading me to believe it was a problem with Connect and/or the 510.

Based on your comment I did a factory reset of the 510...and now it appears to work!

    Some notes:

    • I had done a factory reset on the past; not sure if anything changed this time.
    • I have to power cycle the 510 to get it to sync.
    • I did not have many courses or recorded rides (they were all deleted mysteriously after the Garmin hack)

    ...annnnd.......there are still problems.

I can only load one course at a time onto the 510.  I.e. when I open the file courses menu on the 510 there is only one course there....the last one that I sent to the device.

...and this has burned another hour of my life that I could have been riding.....time for that Wahoo!?

  • Assuming this is not a problem with your vintage Garmin that is beyond repair. Is your issue only with Strava courses? Have you tried sending courses to your 510 that were created on the Garmin Web course creator? To test I would remove the 1 course, then try to create 2 short courses with Garmin Connect Web, then send them to the 510 with Garmin Express.

If I recall, there was an issue many years ago regarding the "1 course at a time" issue. Can't imagine that would be your problem.Thinking
