Way wrong calorie count for tracked activity

I went to a spin class and used my HRM to track my heart rate and wore my watch on my ankle to track my steps. Normally doing this is just fine but today I have to disagree with the calorie count. For 30 minutes of spin, I only burned 49 calories but my heart rate was in zones 4 and 5 for the majority of the class. WTH?!?  Has anyone else had this issue?  Any thoughts on what I did wrong?

  • Depending on the watch model, also the HR Varibaility (detecting the lactic threshold) and/or the average Resting HR for given day, play role. So for example if you did not record your HR during the night or during the rest on that day, it may influence the calories calculation, because of the higher RHR.

Me too! I have been pretty consistent in calorie burn per activity for the last several months. Last week, my calorie burn dropped by 100 one day, then by another 100 the next. After a 45 minute intense met con boot camp, it said I only burned 138 calories. I go crazy hard on my workouts. There is no way that is correct.

It seems that I've had more and more issues the last couple of weeks. About 2-3 weeks ago, it kept burning my arm. That has stopped. Then the inaccurate calorie (and HR and intensity) started. Now the time is totally jacked up. It's been set manually. It's been synced with GPS. It's been allowed to set automatically. It is still showing 2 minutes off, and as the day goes on, it gets slower. It's my first Garmin brand. I've not even had this a year. Disappointed.

If the HRM is not all right, the Calories cannot be either. With so many problems, why don't you contact the Support or the dealer and ask for a replacement? The watch is still under the warranty.
