If you kept the same account, old data should be there. If you signed up a new account with every device (or with one of the newer ones), then the old data is in the original account. There are people…
Likely the issue is what trux stated. I have over 3,000 activities going back to 13 July, 2004. This is going back to the time when it was motionbased.com, before Garmin acquired them in 2005.

I haven’t changed my account since i got my first watch in 2006.
A lot of people is persuaded about it, but it is often the case anyway, because they created a duplicate acount inadvertenly and uncosciously. For example when installing a new device, when changing a phone, or when reinstalling the mobile app - it is easy to mistake the button Sign Up (creating a new account) for Sign In (logging into the original account).
Could it be that I removed my gear from my account that also the activities are removed?
No, it could not. Removing a device won't delete the data. See the doument Steps to Remove or Retire a Device from Garmin Connect Web:
"Removing a device will result in it no longer displaying in your Garmin Connect account. Previously uploaded data will not be affected."
