Workouts are not being synced to Fenix 5x plus no matter which method used

Created the workouts in Garmin Connect as usual.

Synced using the the various options within Connect that launch Garmin Express.

The watch syncs.

No error messages.

The workouts don't appear on the watch.

Tried on two different Mac computers using the latest version of Garmin Express.

Also tried syncing from an Android phone.

No errors anywhere.

Looking at the folders on the phone all of the original workouts are still there in the Workouts folder but the new workouts aren't there.

Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this or troubleshoot further?

Cheers,

Andy

  • Try sending any random additional workout to your device - such upload usually clears the stuck upload queue. Alternatively, you can try pausing and restarting the Training Plan (if it is a plan) or rescheduling the workout (if workout alone)

  • I tried sending other existing workouts, no joy. I deleted a workout off the watch, checked that it was definitely gone and then resent that workout, that workout synced back fine. I created further new workouts, not a single one of the new ones syncs - that's either completely new from scratch workouts or ones that are duplicated from existing ones and renamed.

Given that it syncs a pre-existing workout but won't sync any new workout that suggests that sync is working and that the queue isn't blocked. I've no idea what the issue is with the new workouts (none of these are training plans.) There is no schedule associated with the workout, it is just a simple sequence of runs and rests.

This is frustrating that such a fundamental function isn't working properly.

  • I have found the answer.

There is a limit to the number of workouts that you can have under an activity, that number is 20.

To upload you need to delete workouts from that activity. I'm mentioning it here as I've not seen it mentioned in any of the other questions about Workout sync failing. Apparently this is mentioned somewhere in the documentation but I've not seen it and it never comes up as a suggestion when failure to sync workouts is searched for.

    Cheers,

    Andy

  • I’m having a similar issue but the watch just says download workouts from Connect :-/ the workout I created won’t sync and the other workouts I created from a while ago don’t show up either.

  • , go to the workout you created in Garmin Connect Web, then "Send to Device" with the watch connected to the PC.

This will launch Garmin Express and instantly send to the watch.

if you're still having problems, you may have reached the 25-workout limitation of the watch - User Data File Limitations of the fenix 5 and 5S | fēnix® 5 | Garmin Customer Support

  • Interesting that that link lists a limit of 25 whereas I previously hit the limit at 20. I presume a firmware update has changed it?
