How to import Polar data into Garmin?

Hello,

I am interested switching from Polar Flow to Garmin. For this I want to import all my training units.

At account.polar.com I could download a zip-file (polar-user-data-export*.zip) having all my training-units as JSON-files. Unfortunately the Garmin import only allows the following types:

  • TCX-, FIT- or GPX-Format)
  • Fitbit® (XLS, XLSX or CSV)

I did also try with SyncMyTracks Android App, but it is very slow and gets many errors Disappointed

How did you get it done?

  • Unfortunately it seems RunGap in the iStore is the only thing working good. SyncMyTracks on Android did not work very well for me Disappointed

Happy that I got a spare Apple Device I could use ... Very disappointment that this is not supported by Polar and Garmin Disappointed

  • Hi Ander!

I've written a Polar JSON to FIT converter, exactly for this purpose.

    Polar JSON to FIT converter

It converts the .json files you find in the Polar Flow Export into the Garmin FIT format.

So you can upload those converted .fit files to Garmin and of course other platforms like Tredict.com too.

  • Thank you, Aldipower!

  • Thx Slight smile

Even so to late for me, but hopefully others may find it useful ...

  • Thanks Aldipower!

This seemed to work very well. Easy and pretty fast too.

I have one question related to imported workouts. Maybe doesn't have anything to do with this converter, but in general..

Do the imported activities have an impact on "personal records"? I have some runs from a few years back that have been imported successfully, including route, heart rate, elevations and everything, but not all count towards records.

For example, my "Longest run" record is based on imported data, but fastest 5k is my one and only run with Garmin on the wrist.

Does anyone have similar experiences and maybe some ideas on what to do about this?

  • Hi Mikkis!

Count me wrong, but in my experience Garmin only counts those records, if the are defined _in_ the .fit-file of the activity by your watch.

So, if you are uploading a .fit-file without determined "records" in it, this won't count for the overall records on the Garmin platform.

Shameless suggestion, you can use an manufacturer independent platform like Tredict to track your overall records. Tredict determines the personal bests on it's own by the raw data provided from your imported activities, no matter which type of manufacturer you have used in the past or will use in the future.

  • Yep. Already using Strava which reports on all kinds of nice things based on input from Polar, Garmin, manual, etc.

  • Thank you, worked, added 98 activities from Polar to Garmin

  • Not working very well for me..

  • As your screenshot tells, you are trying to upload a "training-target" which is not an executed workout/training convertible to a fit file. The error message is very precise about this "No Polar training session detected".
So the converter is working perfectly fine.
