Why have my steps not been counted today? I thought they were done automatically

Hey guys.my watch seems to be dormant today as it hasn’t counted any steps since 5am I only just noticed and now it’s started to count them? Surely that’s not right?

It might have been counting and then crashed and reset to 0.

That has happened to me one time about 2 years ago. Besides losing my steps, I also lost my customized activity screens and had to redo them.
