too many steps, when rowing my kayak

I got an update (sensor, I think) friday 10/7 for my Fenix 6.

Saturday morning I was doing indoor kayak (https://www.dansprint.com/dansprint-ergometer.html) for 45 minutes, when I finished,I noticed that number of steps for the day was around 8000.

Looking at the details in the app, I could see that I have done a lot of steps sitting on the kayaking machine.

This is a new 'feature', I kayak 3 times a week, and it has not been counting steps, before this morning.

Prevously I had a garmin 935, where I had the same error for a long time, but some time fall 2019, it got fixed by a software update for the 935.

So my guess is that this update to my fenix 6, now have introduced the same old error to my new watch.

Could Garmin please undo this update ?

  • Steps are detected by the accelerometer of the watch, so as long as you keep the watch on the wrist and the wrist continues moving in patterns similar to walking, the motion will be detected as steps. If you do not wish the motion to be detected, keep the watch off the wrist. If you have a HRM belt, you can simply keep it near you. If you do not have any, attach the watch to your ankle instead.
