Why are there no challenges for hiking?

There are multiple challenges for activities like diving and breathwork but none for hiking. I find this disappointing.

  • I have a Forerunner 735, for some reason it doesn’t when I track a hike it does include this towards walking challenges. Anyone have any ideas what I’m doing wrong?

  • Unfortunatelly Hike is a different category than Walk, however strange it sounds. If you want to have the hikes counted as walks, you have to change the type of the activity to Walk, in Garmin Connect.

  • I don't see why Garmin can't add Hiking to the walking challenges.  Surely walking/hiking are the same thing.  It can't be hard for Garmin to make this change ???

  • I don't see why Garmin can't add Hiking to the walking challenges.

We do not know why, but it is certainly very easy to change the Hiking activity to Walking in Garmin Connect, and it can be done instantly. Though, if you prefere waiting till at Garmin, they change their opinion, you certainly can Slight smile

  • Yeah I'd like Garmin to comment on this.  I'd prefer to categorise my Hikes separate from my walks.  In the same was as runs are different from trail runs but both count as runs in challenges.  Thanks for your reply Trux

  • Garmin won't comment here. You'd need to call the support, but even there they will not give you any answer

  • Hello, although there are dedicated hiking watches, still no hiking challenge and still not possible to issue hiking challenges to our contacts.
I find this very disappointing also.

    Is this expected someday?

  • I want this, too. I don't understand why diving, biking, gravel biking, yoga, pilates, everything except hiking... hiking is what I bought the watch for and the challenges are fun and motivating. I don't want to use "walking" when I hike - I want to use hiking. Please add hiking challenges and badges!

  • Echo & bump.

I saw a hiking challenge this month.   First time I've ever seen one.   It's only four hours in July though.  Four hours is warming up on a day, not a month challenge, but I guess we need to start somewhere!

I can think of dozens of interesting hiking challenges!   C'mon Garmin.   I didn't buy a $1000 GPS watch with topo maps & navigation simply to track biking around the neighborhood!

  • I believe there were 2 months last year that has Hiking challenges. And so far this year there was June and now July.

Since I live in a relative flat land area, tryting to get more than 250-500 feet elevation gain while walking or hiking is near impossible.
I have to look at the Hiking challenges as more walking for me during those months. It suits my needs to have a couple of months were I have to push the walking/hiking to get that extra 4 hours.

But, in the long run you have to realize that the monthly challenges are meant to get people of all conditioning motivated to excerise. You can't have beginning people being asked to do 80 hours, for example, of hiking or walking per month.

If you have hiking buddies, form a group and challenge one another. It's all excerise.....
