VO2max algorithm - what does it use as input?

What is your VO2max algorithm using as input to calculate my VO2max? Frequency of exercises? My pace vs my heart rate? Anything else?

My reason for asking is that

  • when I run in 2 feet of snow (i.e. heavier exercise) my VO2max drops,
  • when I run uphill (i.e. heavier and slower) my VO2max drops,
  • when I take our 3 year old for a run in his buggy (again a heavier exercise) my VO2max drops,
  • when I run (slower) in very technical terrain my VO2max drops,
  • but when I run (faster and more effortless) downhill my VO2max increases.

More difficult ground conditions, variation in elevation, and extra load in the exercise admittedly affect both my pace and heart rate, but not necesseraily my VO2max?

Could you please consider adding such parameters to your VO2max algorithm to reflect variation from flat road in the exercise?
