Duplicate segments

Hi

does anyone know if users / Garmin can identify duplicate segments and if so what the process is for removing them? An activity I did today uncovered a section with four segments all on same section and pretty much identical. This is just clutter and they need to be tidied up. I understand Strava has a process to remove duplicate segments does Garmin have the same?

  • No, there is no such thing. Additionally, the segments are never absolutely identical, since there is no option like "snap to roads" at the Segments, and each recorded track is slightly different, due to the sampling rate used, and due to the GPS inaccuracy, and GPS drift. The "snapping to road" would be certainly a nice feature at most segments (except of the off-road ones), so if you'd like to see such option implemented in GC, send a request through the submissionn form at: https://www.garmin.com/forms/ideas/. The more request there are for the same feature, the higher chance to have it done.

  • I’ve already raised an issue about the snap to roads issue. Garmin have a big opportunity to move into the space Strava have vacated with their charging strategy.
