[Solved] Sudden dramatic decrease in resting calories.

Hi everyone,

I noticed a sudden decrease in the calculation of my resting calories: it went from 2,156 resting calories spent per day to 1,533. Note that I didn't change my weight during that time. I synchronized my watch recently and Garmin Connect keeps this new parameter.

Has anyone else experienced such a dramatic change?

Thanks,

Chris

Mine is stable. Check out your Device Settings » User Settings and verify whether you did not inadvertently change some of the values impacting the calculation of RMR - gender, weigth, height, age, and Acrivity Class.

Do you use more than one Garmin devices? Was the watch on, and did you wear it the whole day and night on May 27?

I checked the settings and everything is just the same as I set it up. I only use one Garmin device: the Vivo Active 3 watch.

I’ve run a few tests and realized that when my watch is off at midnight, the resting calories from the time it was turn off until midnight is equal to zero. However, if for instance I turn it off at 02:00am then turn it on again at 10:00am, the resting calories is counted as if the watch was on (719 calories resting calories spent during these 8 hours, in my case).

Thus, in order to have an accurate estimate, I don’t turn my watch off anymore when I go to sleep before midnight.
