How often do I need to purchase a garmin to use garmin connect

I've used Garmin devices for many years now, and recently stated how Garmin connect was similar enough to Strava, and free. I was informed on CGN that it's not free, as you need to keep purchasing Garmin devices every thee years in order to keep using it.

As I've always had it, I've not noticed a time restriction. Does this mean that in one and a half years I'll have to buy another 1030?

Not sure what CGN is. Unless you meant GCN (global cycling network). You do not need to continually buy new Garmin fitness devices in order to use Garmin Connect.

In fact, you can use Garmin Connect without ever having any garmin device.

Curious what misinformation is being spread from GCN, if anything.

My friend is using a FR301 with Connect that he bought in 2003. Even the battery still works. No fees whatsoever.
