Feature request - make "Gear" a filterable attribute on the "Activities" list

I have activities in Garmin Connect since 2011. Most of these have gear (bike) assigned, but some don't. I would like to be able to batch edit a set of filtered activities to add or remove gear from them, but as a first step can we please have Gear displayed in the Activities list? Yes I know I can go to "Gear" and click on an item to see a list of the activities but it only shows me the first 25 which is useless.

The use cases are things like:

  • "Show me all the activities where I rode my touring bike"
  • "Show me the activities which do not have a bike assigned"
  • Please share your idea with Garmin through the form at https://www.garmin.com/forms/ideas/, since it is unlikely they would spot it here, on the user forum

  • Garmin don't read forums.garmin.com? I wonder who does then? Is it just intended as a "self help" forum as a poor substitute for robust manufacturer support?

In any event posting there does not give other users the opportunity to voice their support. It appears to be a "write only" communication channel with no opportunity for robust interaction between Garmin and customers.

  • Is it just intended as a "self help" forum as a poor substitute for robust manufacturer support?

The main purpose of the user forum is indeed the mutual help of users. Garrmin may intervene up and then, but there is no way they could follow all the traffic here.

I let it up to you to judge, whether the users trying to help others here offer a poor or efficient help to others, but it is a common practice accross the industry, and an efficient way to reduce the load on support departments. Most people ask very basic questions, that can be solved in the turn of the hand by other more experienced users. There is still nothing that could prevent you (or anyone else) speaking to the Garmin Support directly. You are not forced to use the user forum, if you do not like the way it works.

  • No you are right. I should not have been so quick to judge that it is poor. Let's see what happens. Perhaps I will get a response other than "go somewhere else"! Nevertheless my comments about this being the only publicly visible venue to air such requests where others can comment, can support and can see the Garmin response remain.

  • It is fine to share your ideas on the user forum, and I did not tell you to go away. Just, as I told, if you want to be sure it is seen by Garmin, and that it has some impact on their priority list, you better use also the form (linked previously) they specially created for exactly that purpose.

  • AFAIK there is no law preventing Garmin employees from reading this forum. In fact I think it is highly likely that product marketing types do read it, since half their role is to understand customer needs.

My feedback as a loyal customer is a precious gift that I offer. If it is treated as pearls before swine then that is their choice.
