Barometric altimeters will always give you results with an extremely wide margin of errors, especially on a bke, where the gusts of wind apply air pressure on the sensor (regardless if true wind, or speed wind during fast descents). You can improve it a bit by protecting the watch with a sleeve, sweat wristband, tape, or similar. Also using the auto-calibration during activity may help a bit, but it does not seem to be auto-calibrating too frequently anyway. The best solution is enabling the Elevation Correction option on the activity page in Garmin Connect Web - the elevation profile is then recalculated using the topographic data, and as long as the GPS track fits well, it is usually much more accurate than the barometric altimeter.
