Very low calories burned for exercise and resting

My Forerunner 35 seems to be calculating calories burned at a very low rate. My sister and I have the same watch, and although we are different builds, height, weight etc. When we do the same workout, my calories burned (for a 50 minute intense workout) are 160 whereas hers is 460.

I have consistently had this issue and have only had the watch about a month. All of my details are inputted correctly. Any insight?

  • Calories are calculated with the help of the HR during the activity in relation to your average resting HR. So, if you want to know whay there is such a difference between you and your  sister, you have to look at the average resting HR values, and the HR curves during the actvity at both of you. That should explain the difference in Calories.

Thank you - I’m just not sure my Garmin is accurately picking up my heart rate. Is there a way to check the accuracy? My average during that workout was 86 and max 132 bpm which does not seem accurate for such an intense workout. I workout 4-6 times per week pretty intensely, but for 50 minutes high intensity, my active calories are never much more than 160!

Yes, use a HRM chest belt and compare data from both sources.
